The FIFPro World XI is revealed each year during the Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony - which is taking place in London on Monday September 24. It consists of a team in 4-3-3 formation, voted for by professional footballers around the world. The 55-man longlist released today is made up of the five goalkeepers, 20 defenders, 15 midfielders and 15 forwards who got the most votes from their peers. ...
Find the rest of the list through the link. I just want to talk about the Premier League players with the goalkeepers first. David De Gea is the only Premier League goalie named. Recently sold Thibaut Courtois, who moved from Chelsea to Real Madrid over the summer, was also named.
Of the 20 names on the list for defenders, five played in the Premier League. Liverpool’s center back pairing of Virgil van Dijk and Dejan Lovren made the list, along with World Cup star Yerry Mina, who move to Everton over the summer after his performances. Tottenham Hotspur’s Keiran Trippier and Manchester City’s Kyle Walker were named.
Three Premier League clubs had multiple midfielders on the list of 15 midfielders. Chelsea’s midfielder’s Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kanté, Manchester United’s Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matić and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva all made the cut. Former Liverpool player Philippe Coutinho was named.
Up front, Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané gave the Reds four on the list. Romelu Lukaku and Harry Kane were also on the list. The Citizens and the Red Devils each finish with three players while Tottenham and Chelsea each have two.
